Never driven on snow? Mahdi, an MTO-approved and City of Ottawa certified instructor, helps newcomers and new drivers get used to Ottawa winters: braking, turning and keeping your distance on snowy and icy roads, in a dual-control car with winter tires.
Lessons are in a dual-control Toyota Prius Prime fitted with winter tires. With the dual controls, the instructor can brake if needed, so you can learn without pressure. Mahdi teaches in English, French or Arabic and explains each step in the language you understand best.
Winter practice is part of the private lessons: $60 per hour, from 1 to 4 hours. A 2-hour lesson is a good start. If you plan several lessons, the 5-hour package ($250) and the 10-hour package ($450) cost less per hour.
Book on the home page and write "winter" in the notes, or call or text 613-640-6400. Winter practice depends on the weather, so Mahdi confirms the date with you. Newcomers in Canada for less than 2 months get 5% off any package.
This is general safety advice, not legal advice. For licence rules, see G1, G2 and G explained.

Yes. Many students are newcomers or new drivers who have never driven on snow or ice. You practise gentle braking, smooth steering, longer following distances and starting on slippery roads with an instructor who can brake for you with the dual controls.
Book private lessons on the home page and write "winter" in the notes, or call or text 613-640-6400. A 2-hour lesson is a good start. Mahdi confirms the date with you.
Winter practice depends on the weather. Mahdi confirms the date with you, and if the roads are unsafe a lesson may need to move to another day. Tell him when you book if you want to practise on snow or ice.
Winter tires are not required by law in Ontario, but they are strongly recommended. Quebec requires them from December 1 to March 15, which matters if you drive to Gatineau. Ask your insurer whether it offers a discount for winter tires.
It is practice time like any other private lesson. It does not replace the road test and does not shorten the G1 to G2 or G2 to G waiting times.
Send a request and Mahdi will confirm by phone or message. You can also call or text 613-640-6400.
